Treating Your Acne Effectively

A lot of people seem to think that the only time you can get acne is if you are a teenager, but the truth is that a lot of adults develop acne as they live life. That is due to a number of reasons. Stress can bring on acne, as well as hormonal changes. It can be helpful to know how to deal with that when it happens, and here are some effective methods for coping strategically with your acne.

1. Talk to a dermatologist. A lot of people will tell you to talk to a doctor, but a dermatologist specializes in the skin and there is no other doctor more qualified to tell you how to handle your skin. A dermatologist will likely take a proactive approach to dealing with your skin and may suggest medications for you. Talk about any side effects or negatives to any medications before you take them.

2. Know what kind of skin you have. Your dermatologist shouldn't be the only person who knows about your skin. Start keeping a journal, or write a few lines, about what your skin looks like on any given day and start to notice what causes any flareups. Knowing your skin type will also help you choose the right cleanser and moisturizers to use.

3. Wash your hands more often. Many people touch their faces too much, forgetting that germs and bacteria hide on the hands more than anywhere else. And acne is formed because of bacteria. Wash your hands multiple times a day, and make sure it takes 20-30 seconds each time.

4. Change what you are eating. You know that you need food, but you really need good food for a healthy body and clear skin. If you are eating junk food, realize that you are doing your skin a disservice. Eat a diet that is high in lean meats, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

5. Exercise. Exercise helps your health generally anyway, but it can help you with your acne too. Try to get a frequent regiment under way, so that you are exercising three to four days a week for at least an hour at a time. You don't have to overdo it, but you certainly have to make an honest effort. Even going walking for a few minutes can help you.

6. Work on your stress. Stress can be damaging to both your physical and mental state in so many ways, and it can cause acne flareups very often. You have got to learn to relax. Some people don't think they have time to relax, but you do not have time NOT to relax. Become educated on what stress can do to your body, especially your skin, and decide to take a step. Try nature walks or spending time at the sea. Try yoga or meditation. There are many things you can do to calm your life down.

Acne can be a frustrating thing to deal with, but it's important that you realize many people you know have acne, and that you can conquer it. Use the tips in this article and you'll see results in no time.
