The Most Effective Ways To Treat Acne
from: MultiSkinCare.comWhether you are someone who has developed acne recently, or have had it over a number of years, you know how difficult it is to treat. There are a few different reasons acne may become a problem, and understanding and eliminating those reasons can bring about a positive change. Use the information in this article to help make those changes for yourself.
The primary cause for acne is hormones, and that is the reason the problem typically arises for the first time as a young person enters puberty. Hormonal changes cause the skin to produce more oil and sebum, and only thorough cleaning at least two times each day helps. Cleaning your skin religiously is not enough to eliminate acne, since it is caused by clogged pores which cannot be cleaned by washing.
Common sense would indicate someone who suffers from acne should avoid foods that are deep fried since they are high in fat, and spicy foods may cause irritation to the skin and result in a breakout. There is slight evidence that milk can cause an increase in the particular hormones responsible for acne. In actuality, research has not found substantial evidence to connect acne to diet.
Do not use a washcloth when cleansing areas affected by acne. Gently wash your face using a cleanser and your hands, and limit the washing time to 10 seconds or less. Create a lather in your hands before applying it to your face so you can minimize any irritation to your skin. Gently pat your skin dry with a soft, absorbent towel and never rub or use a scrubbing motion. Allow your skin to air dry for 15 minutes before treating it with benzoyl peroxide. Apply the treatment to your skin very gently, allowing it to be absorbed without rubbing it in. Take care to avoid the skin around your eyes because benzoyl peroxide is very drying and can damage this sensitive skin. This treatment can cause your skin to be red and itchy so use a moisturizer as the last step of your regimen. Apply the moisturizer very gently in the same way you applied the BP treatment. If your skin is still flaky, add a few drops of jojoba oil to your moisturizing treatment. Makeup should be kept to a minimum, but a tinted moisturizer applied gently may work for you. If you want to apply a concealer, dot it gently on trouble spots using a feather-light touch.
Once you have tried everything you can do on your own without making any difference, you should probably make an appointment with a dermatologist. There are times when oral medication is the only treatment that works. Your dermatologist can also give you advice and information to make sure you are following the best treatment plan at home.
Acne can be devastating to anyone, and especially for young teens who are at a crucial stage in developing their self esteem. Use the information provided in this article to help you find effective treatment for your acne.
