Comparison of Different Kinds of Common Ways to Treat Acne

from: MultiSkinCare.com

The most common skin disease that people get is acne, acne is estimated to affect around eighty percent of people all over the world some time in their lives. There are many over the counter medications that you can buy to help with acne but these sometimes just do not do the trick. There are times in which people have to turn to a doctor to help them with their acne.

Some of the medications that people often get from doctors for their acne are Topical retinoids. Topical retinoids work by getting rid of clogged pores. They come in cream, gel, and liquid forms and are often used in conjunction with a topical antibiotic. Sometimes the use of topical retinoids will dry the skin out.

Benzoyl Peroxide is another medication people use to get rid of acne. This medication comes in liquid, cream, bar, lotion, or gel form. This medication also clears pores and it works as a peeling agent as well. Benzoyl peroxide also can dry out the skin.

A dermatologist might also want you to try hormonal treatments if you are woman suffering from acne. Often times this is the reason in which a woman is developing acne. Some of the ways that you are treated are being prescribed birth control pills and perhaps using some other kinds of hormone therapies.

There are certain types of acne that can temporarily be treated by antibiotics to quell the flare up. They work by attacking the bacterial infection that is causing the acne in the first place. This often does not happen unless you have a boil, etc. After treating with antibiotics other skin care treatments should be used. You have to visit your doctor or dermatologist to have them diagnose your condition so that they know the correct medications to use to help clear your acne flare ups.

This is a new kind of acne treatment normally used for treating papules or pistules or white or black heads. The theory is that if you use these lights they will penetrate the skin and cause a reaction that excites the sebum in the skin pores. The blue light treatment works for the sebum and pores and the red light can help with the inflammation of the acne. The blue light has far more research behind it. Different kinds of red and blue light treatments are available. Table top treatments can require you to do around 10-15 minutes of the therapy a day and 30 minutes to one hour a day if you are using a hand held red and blue light therapy device.

As you now see from reading this article you might think that you want to take advantage of one acne treatment above the other one. You should always consult a doctor or dermatologist to ask them what medications they think you should use and so that they can prescribe the right one to help you have a healthier and more beautiful complexion.
