Internationally famous through celebrities, models, and professional makeup artist's oral endorsements, Mac cosmetics became synonymous with beauty and glamour, due in part to the celebrity endorsements, ever-increasing fashion industry presence, universal diversity, and cruelty free products. In 1994, the Estee Lauder Companies acquired controlling interest and in 1998, finished their acquisition of Mac cosmetics.
