Whitening Your Teeth

Having an attractive, pearly white smile will dramatically improve your appearance and boost your self-esteem. With so many state-of-the-art teeth whitening treatments available, there is absolutely no reason for you to settle for living life with yellow or discolored teeth. Do not live another day feeling self conscious about the way your teeth look. The information contained in this article will fill you in on everything you need to know to achieve a bright, white, healthy looking smile.

If you want a nice white smile, it is important that you do not neglect your teeth. Practice good dental hygiene by brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing once per day. See your dentist every six months for a cleaning and a check up. Regular dental visits will eliminate plaque and help to keep your teeth healthy and white.

Give up cigarettes. If you want white teeth, you simply cannot smoke. Smoking will yellow your teeth no matter how often you brush or what whitening treatments you try. To achieve and maintain a white smile, you must quit smoking.

Coffee, soda pop and tea also dramatically discolor and stain teeth. If at all possible, try to avoid drinking these beverages. If you are a coffee addict and cannot imagine making it through the morning without your cup of coffee, than you should brush your teeth immediately after drinking the coffee. This will help to prevent your teeth from becoming permanently stained. When drinking soda pop, use a straw. The straw will prevent the pop from making direct contact with your enamel and help to prevent yellowing of the teeth.

Before scheduling an appointment with your dentist for an in-office whitening procedure, there are a number of different whitening products you can try that are available over-the-counter at pharmacies and drug stores. Whitening toothpastes, gums, and rinses will lighten your teeth a little bit and help to maintain an already white smile. Whitening strips and trays provide more dramatic results. After a week of using whitening strips you should notice a difference in the whiteness of your teeth. You will get similar results with over-the-counter whitening trays.

If over-the-counter whitening products do not give you the results that you were looking for, you can make an appointment to talk with your dentist about stronger whitening procedures. A dentist can provide you with a very strong whitening tray kit that will whiten your teeth more dramatically than tray kits that are sold over-the-counter. For the whitest smile possible, ask your dentist about laser whitening. Laser whitening will significantly whiten your teeth after only one short in-office session. The results provided by laser whitening are really amazing, but it is somewhat expensive. The cost is something you must consider if you are struggling financially.

A healthy, gleaming white smile will improve both the way you look and they way you feel. No matter how discolored or yellow your teeth are, they can be whitened. Do not spend another day feeling self conscious about your smile, take action to whiten your teeth.
